PHOTOS: 5th annual Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt returns to Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The annual Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt returned for its fifth year in the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon.

The fifth annual Easter Eggstravaganza event was held at Chesterfield County Fairgrounds from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and according to the Ride on Cannon Foundation, they dropped 20,000 eggs filled with candy and tickets to exchange for new toys.

The organization will also give away more than 65 new bicycles at the event, according to event organizer Teresa Welch.

Welch said the egg hunt also featured tasty treats, like popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy for the kids in honor of Bonny Parker's 5-year-old son Cannon Hinnant, who was killed in August 2020.

"The message to the community is really giving back, honoring someone who was taken away too soon, by unnecessary gun violence -- that needs to end," Welch said. "The pain that a parent goes through doesn't last a day, it lasts a lifetime. We just need to look out for each other."

"We just do our best to make this a free family community event because you don't know when the last time you're going to make a memory is going to be," Welch added.

Welch said they host multiple giveaways throughout the year, including giving kids backpacks full of school supplies, new shoes and a new outfit for their first day of school, as well as feed needy families on Thanksgiving.

The Easter Eggstravaganza is a free community event, which also features balloon twisters, face painters, bouncy houses, food trucks and live music.
