NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A baby owl that was sitting in the middle of a road in Nottoway County was rescued by a Virginia State Police trooper Monday evening. In the evening on Monday, Jan. 27, while instructing trooper-trainees at Virginia State Police's Driver Training Complex in the town of Blackstone in Nottoway County, a senior trooper noticed a baby owl sitting in the road. The owl appears to be an eastern screech owl, a species native to Virginia. The name comes from their call, which is a screeching noise.
