PHOTOS: Nine students win Virginia’s Aviation Art Contest
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Out of close to 70 submissions, there were nine students that won Virginia's Aviation Art Contest.
According to the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) , there were nine winners of the statewide Aviation Art Contest, whose theme this year was "Women with Wings." The selected students' work will go on to be judged in competition against other art submissions from around the country.
The DOAV expressed that the winners were selected anonymously based on the creativity, color composition and connection of the artwork to the this year's theme. The submitted artwork was so exceptional that the judges awarded five others with honorable mention recognitions.

“Our student’s talents are stunning. So many of these pieces of art could go in a museum,” said Greg Campbell, director of the DOAV.
The 2025 winners of the Virginia Aviation Art Contest are:
Group I Junior Category
- First Place Winner: 9-year-old Lena Shi of McLean
- Second Place Winner: 9-year-old Andrew Yang of Great Falls
- Third Place Winner: 10-year-old Melissa Cheung of Aldie
- Honorable Mention: Aiden Zhang of Fall's Church
Group II Intermediate Category
- First Place Winner: 13-year-old Ivan Li of Herndon
- Second Place Winner: 12-year-old Ryan He of McLean
- Third Place Winner: 12-year-old Aspen Xing of Vienna
- Honorable Mention: 12-year-old Adrian Qin of McLean
- Honorable Mention: 12-year-old Sophia Parsons of Fries
Group III Senior Category
- First Place Winner: 14-year-old Lalitha Kuchipudi of Chantilly
- Second Place Winner: 15-year-old Ava Zhang of McLean
- Third Place Winner: 15-year-old Janet Li of Herndon
- Honorable Mention: 14-year-old Anna Dou of Aldie
- Honorable Mention: 16-year-old Shirley Wang of McLean
