RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Staff at Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) kicked off 2026 like they do any other day: caring for animals in need.

On Friday, Jan. 2, RACC took to Facebook to share how the first day of 2026 went for its staff -- using photos and text messages those staff members sent throughout the workday.

"Um, I picked up the first dog of 2026, it's a mastiff, he is awesome," one such text reads.

"Second one. Cat with an abscess the size of a baseball," another reads. "His name is Baseball lol."

If you'd like to kick off your new year with a new furry friend, consider visiting RACC's shelter at 1600 Chamberlayne Ave.
