RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Greek Festival returned for its 47th year this weekend, filled with its culture and fellowship.

The event was held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Malvern Avenue from Thursday, May 29 through Sunday, June 1. The following are the days and times the event was open throughout the week:

  • 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 29
  • 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 30
  • 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 31
  • 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 1

"It's definitely so gratifying to be able to look up to those who are older than us, to learn from them, to continue to carrying on this tradition that has been so important to us throughout all of our lives and to share it with all of Richmond has been such a gratifying experience," Kiki Spears, part of "the younger generation," said.

The annual event featured legendary food, dancing and music, with opportunities for guests to tour the sanctuary and learn more about the Orthodox religion.

The event also features an À la carte line, pastries, an international market and a wine booth.

"I would like them to just come live with us, come see how we learn to love each other and share the community," Spears added. "They give us such a great opportunity to give back to the Richmond that has been so kind to us for so many years. It's so great to spend time together."

A portion of the festival proceeds from this year's festival benefits several charities, including Elijah House Academy, Richmond Habitat for Humanity, Little Hands Virginia, Crossover Healthcare Ministry and Goochland Cares.

"We all just share the same faith and similar values and love for each other, and we're just so happy to share that," Spears said.
