PHOTOS: Richmond Police says this identification can lead to a crack in a cold case
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The potential identification of a disguised man may be 'enormous' in helping the Richmond Police Department solve a cold case, according to detectives.
Police did not provide 8News with specific details pertaining to the case, such as the date, time nor location of the incident -- adding that they wanted to bring greater validity to the answers provided in the case.
"In the other cases, a lot of times the pictures that we have are from the location of the murder scene, so it's obvious where it happened at," said Det. Sgt. George Wade of Major Crimes of the Richmond Police Department. "We'd be able to vet the information that we receive a heck of a lot easier if the person that was calling in said, 'Yeah, I know this guy. He lives in this particular part of town and we know possibly where he lives or the direction of of where he was going after the murder.'"
Police told 8News the man is Black and wore glasses, a navy blue bucket hat, a blue jacket, black pants, a black crossbody bag and black and red Michael Jordan-style sneakers.

Solving this homicide case would add to the six cold cases cleared so far in 2025, according to department officials, four of which are from 2024.
"In those particular cases, there was one case in particular where the individual knew about the homicide but didn't come forward with the information and wouldn't present the information to the police, but was willing to present the information of who the suspect was to the victim's mother and father," Det. Sgt. Wade said.
Wade added that by the individual doing this, though there was not an arrest made as the suspect was already deceased, he along with his team was able to close the case and provide closure to the family.
Anyone with information on the case mentioned is asked to contact Detective Sergeant G. Wade (804) 646-0606 or Detective J. Crewell at (804) 646-5324.
