Pick up free native plant seedlings in Henrico ahead of Earth Day

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Just in time for Earth Day, plant lovers can pick up free native plant seedlings at select locations in Henrico County on Saturday.

Between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, over 2,000 seedlings of several plant species native to Virginia will be handed out at all Henrico County Public Library locations, as well as Deep Run Park, which is located at 9900 Ridgefield Parkway.

According to county officials, this includes seedlings for the yellow poplar tree, willow oak tree, black chokeberry shrub and silky dogwood shrub.

This event was made possible by Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District, which provided the seedlings.

"Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District encourages community members to support pollinators and the local environment by adding native plant species to their homes," the county said.

These seedlings are available in limited quantities and will be handed out only while supplies last. For more information, click here.
