Plea hearing set for man accused of killing Jacob Baldwin in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A plea hearing has been scheduled for the man accused of killing a 27-year-old Chesterfield County man during a confrontation in Richmond's Scott’s Addition in October 2024.

On Monday, Oct. 20, Nico Rivera of Hanover County will appear in Richmond City Circuit Court for a plea hearing. Notably, this same date was previously reported to be the start of his 5-day jury trial.

Rivera is accused of the 2nd-degree murder of Jacob Baldwin, who died days after he was knocked to the ground by a punch in the intersection of West Marshall and North Sheppard streets on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024.

In the months leading up to this court date, Rivera's bond was revoked after he missed multiple appointments for court-mandated drug tests.

The plea hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.
