Pole Green Elementary School closes in Hanover County due to ‘unknown smell’
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Pole Green Elementary School in Hanover County closed on Friday due to an "unknown smell," according to school officials.
In the morning on Friday, Feb. 6, Hanover County Public Schools announced on social media that Pole Green Elementary School would be closed due to an "unknown smell."
Hanover County Fire and EMS crews and the school division's maintenance department were reportedly responding to the school.
As of reporting, school officials said the cause of the smell is not known, and it is not yet known when the school will be safe for students and staff to return.
Students who were already picked up by school buses will reportedly be dropped off at Hanover High School. Pole Green Elementary School staff will be on site to assist them, including for meal service.
School officials said parents and guardians should bring their photo IDs and pick up their students from Hanover High School. Parents and guardians were asked to park in the parking lot and enter the front office.
"Students will remain under adult supervision as long as needed until they are picked up," school officials said.
School officials apologized for the disruption and thanked the school community for its understanding. Additional information will be shared when it becomes available, according to Hanover Schools.
