Police continue search for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect after finding vehicle involved in deadly I-85 shooting

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate after the vehicle driven by the suspect involved in the deadly Interstate 85 shooting was found by authorities.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office is continuing their search for 19-year-old Jason Allen Glidewell II, of the Bracey area in Virginia, who is the suspect in the shooting and killing of 20-year-old Hunter Bates on I-85 in Mecklenburg County.
At around 3:47 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, state police were notified of a reported shooting on I-85 northbound in Mecklenburg County.
State troopers responded to the incident and found a Honda Civic that had gone off the right side of the road and came to rest in a culvert, according to officials.
The driver, identified as Bates, formerly of Colonial Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was taken to a local hospital and was later released.
According to state police, at the time of the shooting, the suspect was believed to be driving a silver 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche with the Virginia registration TFN 1004. The vehicle may have damage to the driver's side door or front quarter panel.
Glidewell is considered to be armed and dangerous. Officials said it is believed that he has ties to the Richmond and Henrico County area.

Glidewell is described as a white man standing 5 feet, 7 inches, and weighing about 160 pounds.
