Police identify 62-year-old woman hit, killed by vehicle in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 62-year-old has been identified as the woman who was hit and killed by a vehicle in Richmond Saturday evening.
According to the Richmond Police Department (RPD), officers were called to the intersection of Maury and East 19th streets at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10 for the report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.
When officers arrived they found a woman, now identified as 62-year-old Valerie Smith, down and unresponsive in the road.
Smith was taken to a local hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
It has been determined that Smith was walking northbound on East 19th Street and attempting to cross Maury Street using the crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle driving westbound on Maury Street, according to the RPD Crash Team.
The man driving the vehicle remained at the scene. As of the time of reporting, charges have not been placed.
