RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 95 South in Richmond's Southside Thursday morning after police said the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle that had cut in front of the tractor-trailer.

At 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-95 South, just north of the Chippenham Parkway exit in Richmond's Southside, near Chesterfield County.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2026 Volvo VNL tractor-trailer that was hauling roughly 43,000 pounds of laundry detergent and feminine hygiene products overturned after the driver took "evasive action" and swerved to avoid another vehicle that had cut in front of it.

Officials said there was no contact between the tractor-trailer and the vehicle that cut in front of it.

The tractor-trailer reportedly hit an exit sign and a guardrail before it overturned and came to rest along the right shoulder lane.

Police said the driver was not injured, and officials continue to investigate the crash.
