Police: Two suspects use fraudulent coupons, return items for full price at multiple Central Virginia stores
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Police are investigating an incident after two suspects reportedly used fraudulent coupons to purchase items at multiple Central Virginia stores and returned them for the full price, receiving hundreds of dollars.
On June 12, a fraud reportedly occurred at the Walmart located at 12000 Iron Bridge Plaza in Chesterfield County.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, first, two Black male suspects visited a Walmart in Petersburg, where they used fraudulent coupons to buy multiple cases of Red Bull at a bout $2 each, which is $20 less than the actual price per case.
Police said the suspects then went immediately to the Chesterfield Walmart and returned the cases of Red Bull for the actual price, receiving about $220 "under false pretenses."
According to officials, further investigation revealed that these suspects have carried out the same fraud at numerous other stores in Central Virginia, resulting in a total loss of about $12,000.
