Police: Vehicle sideswiped another car, hit jersey wall before overturning in deadly crash on I-95 in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police have shared additional information regarding the circumstances of the crash that occurred on Interstate 95 South in Richmond on Tuesday, which left one driver dead.

In the morning on Wednesday, March 4, Virginia State Police shared more information regarding the deadly crash that occurred at 7:54 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, on I-95 South near the I-64 East interchange in Richmond.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates a 2004 Lexus RX330 was heading south on I-95 near the interchange for I-64 East when witnesses reported the Lexus sideswiped a Honda Fit, struck the left concrete jersey wall, and overturned into the left lane of I-95 southbound.

The driver of the Lexus died at the scene and was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police. The driver's identity is pending their family's notification.

Police said concrete debris from the crash hit at least three vehicles on I-95 North. No crashes were reported on the northbound side, officials said.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the crash.
