Powhatan man sentenced to more than 30 years behind bars for sexually abusing teen girl
POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Powhatan man was sentenced to more than 30 years behind bars on Wednesday after he took a teenage girl across state lines with "the intent to sexually abuse her," according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
On Wednesday, June 11, 50-year-old Daniel Wayne Kidd was sentenced to 33 years in prison for child exploitation offenses.
According to court documents, Kidd spent thousands of dollars in order to get the teenage girl to come to Virginia in 2022 so that "he could sexually abuse her over the course of a week."
The Department of Justice said that Kidd and 36-year-old Rosalinda Delgado Rosas tried to gain control of the teenager by offering her expensive gifts and experiences to "coerce her into engaging in sexual acts with Kidd," as per the Department of Justice.
On Sept. 4, 2024, Rosas was sentenced to 25 years in prison for her role in the scheme.
The teenager was reportedly given medications to make her drowsy, and Kidd and Rosas recorded Kidd's sexual abuse of the teenager.
Officials said that this case is part of Project Safe Childhood -- a nationwide initiative that the Department of Justice began in May 2006 -- to combat child exploitation and abuse.
