Powhatan State Park ranger to host guided fall birding walk
POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Looking to enjoy time in nature this weekend? A ranger at Powhatan State Park will host a fall birding walk Saturday morning.
The walk will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, with the group meeting at the playground parking area.
Attendees will take a guided walk in the woods while learning about birds' different seasonal survival strategies and practicing bird identification by their appearance, song, behavior and environmental context.
The walk will span about 1 to 1.5 miles at a slow pace with frequent stops on mostly flat terrain.
Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars if you have them. If not, a few pairs can be borrowed.
The trail can be muddy at times, so attendees are asked to dress accordingly. Bringing water is also recommended.
For more information, visit the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation's website. Participants can print out a birding pamphlet available on the event's page.
