President Trump meets with Youngkin, other governors to discuss top topics
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- President Donald Trump met with state governors, including Gov. Glenn Youngkin, on Friday to discuss the top topics facing the United States.
On Friday, Feb. 21, President Trump delivered remarks during the governor's work session, discussing topics such as FEMA disaster relief, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), federal cuts and more.
At the meeting, Trump said he declared a national energy emergency to combat inflation and get quick approvals to build electric plants.
Trump said companies need "tremendous amounts of electricity" for artificial intelligence or AI.
"I said we're going to get you [the companies] quick approvals and you're going to build your own electric plants, so that you create your own energy when you build your plant, which will be massive. These are massive plants," Trump said.
Trump went on to say when a plant is built, the companies will also build an electric generating plant so that they will have their own utility.
"This way they're not subject to a bad grid or a dangerous grid, or a grid that gets taken out by bombs or war, or anything else," Trump said. "They actually couldn't believe it, they said, 'You think you can get that approved?' Yeah, I'll get that approved. Very quickly. They couldn't believe it and they're so happy, and they're going to do some in Virginia. Some big ones."
According to Trump, these plants will be mostly powered by natural gas, with some using coal or nuclear energy.
