Prince George County firefighters remind residents to keep chimneys clean after chimney fire

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Following a chimney fire at a home in Prince George County, firefighters are reminding residents to stay safe and prevent fires by keeping their chimneys clean.

Just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, Prince George County Fire and EMS crews responded to the 2400 block of Gary's Church Road for a reported structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a chimney fire that was quickly contained and did not extend to the rest of the home. No injuries were reported.

A chimney fire on Jan. 22 damaged a different home in the county, according to officials.

In the aftermath, residents were reminded to get their chimneys inspected and cleaned annually by a professional, as regular maintenance helps to keep homes safe.
