Property stolen, destroyed across Mecklenburg in string of incidents

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- From ATVs to lawn equipment to fiber optic wire, property across Mecklenburg County was either stolen or intentionally damaged in a string of late July incidents.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office is investigating a total of six property crimes that took place between Wednesday, July 23 and Saturday, July 26.

"These incidents include the theft of ATVs, lawn equipment, power tools and an act of intentional property destruction," the sheriff's office said.

These property crimes include:

  • ATV theft on Wednesday, July 23
    • Location: Saffold Road in the South Hill area
    • Specifics: A green Honda FourTrax Recon ATV was stolen.
  • ATV theft on Thursday, July 24
    • Location: Wilkerson Road in the Clarksville Area
    • Specifics: A green 2010 Kawasaki Brute Force KVF650 was stolen. It has an aftermarket exhaust and winch.
  • Fiber optic wire cut on Thursday, July 24
    • Location: Highway 15; countywide impact
    • Specifics: A fiber optic wire along Highway 15 was intentionally cut, interrupting internet and phone service for many.
  • Lawn equipment theft on Friday, July 25
    • Location: Cow Road in the Buffalo Junction area
    • Specifics: Multiple pieces of lawn equipment were stolen. Authorities did not provide further details on the kind of lawn equipment that was taken.
  • ATV theft on Friday, July 25
    • Location: Overby Road in the Nelson area
    • Specifics: A green 1998 Honda FourTrax and a red 2012 Honda Rancher 420 were stolen.
  • Power tool, lawn equipment theft on Friday, July 25
    • Location: Henrico Road in the Buffalo Junction area
    • Specifics: An orange and white Model 79 Stihl Chainsaw, as well as a Husqvarna backpack leaf blower, were stolen.

Authorities advised residents to lock and secure any ATVs, lawn equipment or power tools they may have, as well as record their serial numbers and take photos of them. Residents may also consider installing motion-sensor lighting and/or security cameras.

Residents are asked to report any suspicious vehicles, persons or activity they see immediately.
