RACC waives adoption fees, needs immediate fosters ahead of winter storm

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is waiving adoption fees on Friday and Saturday and seeking immediate fosters in an attempt to make more cage space before this weekend's winter storm.

An arctic front is expected to bring wintry weather to Central Virginia starting on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Our StormTracker8 team is expecting that this system will bring some snow to the region at the start, but this will become sleet and freezing rain in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 25. This freezing rain will quickly freeze into ice, creating dangerous conditions and a risk of widespread power outages.

In the days before the storm, RACC is waiving adoption fees in hopes of freeing up more cage space. According to a Facebook post from the shelter, this offer is good for both Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday.

Additionally, RACC is looking for immediate fosters that can shelter an animal in their home for the duration of the storm. This will allow the shelter to have even more space for pets in need. If you can foster, you are asked to email lydia.worden@rva.gov.

The shelter, which will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, is located at 1600 Chamberlayne Ave. in Richmond.
