Richmond Anime-Fest returns with maid cafe, cosplay contest

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A convention celebrating anime and its fandoms is returning to Richmond this summer with pop culture items and several family-friendly activities.

Richmond Anime-Fest will take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, at Four Points by Sheraton Richmond Airport.

The convention will feature celebrated voice actors from popular anime series like "One Piece," "Fullmetal Alchemist," "Black Clover" and "My Hero Academia." There will be a Q&A panel for attendees curious about the world of anime and many meet-and-greet opportunities with industry professionals and fandom celebrities, per organizers.

Attendees will also have a chance to meet local manga artists and see their crafts at the convention.

According to organizers, the festival will hold exhibitions on a wide range of interests, including toys, video games, manga, cosplay and apparel and jewelry. There will be a cosplay contest with several prizes for competitors.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience an anime-themed tea party hosted by the North Carolina-based Galaxy Dreams maid cafe, where staff are dressed as cute characters and serve snacks and drinks in a 50-minute session. The cafe will also feature games, entertainment, a photo booth, merch and other take-home items.

Tickets are $20 for adults and free for children under 11 years old. For more information, visit Richmond Anime-Fest.
