Richmond cat café The Purrfect Bean closes due to flooding caused by cat
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Purrfect Bean, a Richmond cat café, has temporarily closed due to flooding caused by a "series of freak accidents" involving a cat named Roller.
The Purrfect Bean is a cat café that opened in August at 214 N. Lombardy St. in Richmond's Fan District. The space was formerly home to Westray’s Finest Ice Cream.
According to social media posts by The Purrfect Bean on Tuesday, Dec. 2, major flooding at the cat café has caused a temporary closure of the business.
The cat café said the flooding was caused by a "series of freak accidents" involving a cat named Roller, a towel and a sink. Flooding in the cat lounge upstairs reportedly leaked into the café space downstairs.
Fortunately, the business said all cats were lounging on furniture at the time, and some "enjoyed splashing around in the water." All cats are safe, and they are reportedly being housed by previous fosters while the situation is assessed and repairs are ongoing.
The Purrfect Bean said the cat café will have to be closed for the next week, and likely a few weeks afterward, but the exact timeline has not yet been determined.
The business said it will keep the community updated as new information about repairs becomes available. To follow updates, visit the cat café's Instagram page.
