Richmond hopes new p-card tracker will promote transparency, accountability
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond has launched a new web-based progress tracker for its purchasing card program, hoping to offer transparency and accountability.
On Monday, June 16, Richmond launched the web-based tracker that provides updated information about the purchasing card (p-card) program.
According to the city, the program was reset earlier this year and is in the middle of a rebuild, with the intention to design a replacement that is rooted in best practices, accountability and public trust in mind.
“We know that government accountability must be earned, every day,” said Mayor Danny Avula in a press release. “That’s why we didn’t just pause the p-card program. We took a close look at what wasn’t working and chose to rebuild something stronger and more transparent that better serves our City. This tracker is our way of inviting the public into that process and showing, in real time, the work we’re doing to fix it.”
The city described the tracker as a "one-stop shop" for news centered around the rebuilding of the program, which will include announcements and press releases. Additionally, the tracker shares the status on updates about reform processes like policies and procedures, training materials and more.
“The new p-card program will have rigorous guardrails, comprehensive user training, and clear lines of accountability,” said Rene Almaraz, director of the Department of Procurement Services, in the release. “This tracker is one more layer of transparency that we are committed to providing as we work to identify and fix what is not best serving the people of Richmond.”
