Richmond maintains safe water pressure following water main break in city also affecting Henrico
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond officials say that they have maintained safe water pressure throughout the system overnight after a significant water main break on Thursday night.
The water main break occurred at 8th and Canal Streets, leading to a reduction in the amount of water flowing into the city's Church Hill Tank, according to a release from the city.
This comes after the boil water advisory in the city was lifted at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, following two clean water sample tests. However, as early as late Thursday evening, residents in Henrico began experiencing low water pressure.
However, city officials said that during the overnight repair, Richmond's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) found that they could not permanently fix the issue without the repair impacting residents of both the city and Henrico County.
"Due to proactive efforts by DPU staff, this plan was effectively implemented, and safe water pressure was maintained throughout the entire distribution system during this short overnight timeframe," the announcement from the city reads. "Today, water service to residents remains safe and stable."
According to city officials, the permanent repair is expected to take place early next week.
DPU and Henrico developed a plan to ensure appropriate water levels would be maintained throughout the city's storage tanks and that the water service would continue.
They ensure residents that their water services won't be impacted and say they are allowing the county to plan appropriate water storage.
