Richmond man charged after another man found stabbed multiple times in Chesterfield parking lot

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 53-year-old Richmond man is facing multiple charges after another man was found injured with multiple stab wounds in a Chesterfield parking lot on Tuesday morning.

The stabbing reportedly occurred in the 15700 block of Woods Edge Road at 5:48 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, according to the Chesterfield County Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed multiple times by a suspect in a parking lot.

Police said that after stabbing the victim, the suspect then began driving the victim's vehicle, before hitting another vehicle and fleeing the scene of that crash. There were no injuries in that crash.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

Police identified the suspect as 53-year-old John G. Watkins of Richmond. The victim and Watkins reportedly knew each other.

Police said the investigation indicates that Watkins brandished a gun at some point during the incident.

Watkins was taken into custody around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. He was charged with the following, according to officials:

  • Malicious wounding
  • Carjacking
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Brandishing
  • Hit-and-run

Watkins is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond. Police continue to investigate.
