Richmond man pleads guilty to firearm charge after allegedly pointing gun at ex-girlfriend
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Richmond man pleaded guilty on Monday, Feb. 24, to possessing an illegal firearm as a felon and allegedly pointing it at his ex-girlfriend in 2023.
According to Department of Justice (DOJ) court documents, in August 2023, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to a report that 28-year-old Trevon Barfield had a firearm and was pointing it at his ex-girlfriend at an apartment complex. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest at the time.
When officers saw Barfield sitting at the top of the stairwell and informed him he had a warrant, he reportedly reached for "an object" in his pocket. After struggling for a brief moment, the officers restrained Barfield and recovered the loaded handgun from his pocket, as well as a small quantity of cocaine.
The DOJ confirmed Barfield is a previously convicted felon, with two previous convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm and is not permitted to possess a firearm or ammunition legally.
Barfield is scheduled for sentencing on May 28 and now faces up to 15 years in prison.
