Richmond man sentenced to 30 years after deadly Henrico shooting on New Year’s 2024

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The man accused of a New Year's night 2024 shooting in Henrico County that left a woman dead and another injured has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Rajahn Heath of Richmond appeared in Henrico Circuit Court in the afternoon on Tuesday, Sept. 16, where he was sentenced to 40 years in prison with 10 years suspended, effectively being sentenced to 30 years.

Upon his release, he will face 40 years of probation.

Other amended charges that he previously faced, including two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of aggravated malicious wounding, were nolle prossed, meaning prosecutors decided not to proceed with the charges.

On Jan. 9, he was arraigned in New Jersey in connection with a shooting just before midnight on Jan. 1, 2024, which resulted in the death of 34-year-old Shante Jones, of Henrico County.

The other victim, who has not been identified by police, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
