Richmond Marathon 2025 will be bigger than ever as second sell-out seems imminent
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- This year's Richmond Marathon anticipates a repeat sell-out as registration numbers outpace 2024.
The Allianz Richmond Marathon had a record-breaking year in 2024, with about 21,000 runners participating across all three race distances. The full marathon reached its maximum participant capacity in 2024.
However, it seems like this year's marathon will be even bigger than last year's in terms of participation, according to a June 26 press release from Sports Backers.
The full marathon has already reached its 6,200-participant capacity and the CarMax Richmond Half-Marathon has sold out at 10,000 registrations.

“We knew coming off such a strong year in 2024 that momentum would carry over, but the continued enthusiasm throughout Richmond and beyond has been amazing," said Meghan Keogh, race director for the Allianz Richmond Marathon, in the release.
There's set to be a price increase for the marathon, half-marathon and 8K races on July 1 -- however, even then, organizers are anticipating a second consecutive sell-out.
This growth is thanks to a significant expansion of the event's promotional efforts. Sports Backers said its goal is to make Richmond a premier running destination across the nation.
The Allianz Richmond Marathon will take place on November 15. For more information, visit Sports Backers' website.
