Richmond SPCA’s mascot, Myrtle visits 8News ahead of 23rd annual Dog Jog
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Ahead of the Richmond SPCA's 23rd annual Dog Dog Jog, 5k and Block Party, a spokesperson and the organization's mascot, Myrtle visited 8News to provide more information.
In the morning, on Tuesday, March 18, 8News Anchor Delaney Hall and StormTracker8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo were joined by Richmond SPCA director of communications Tabitha Treloar and the organization's mascot, Myrtle.
As for what attendees can expect, Treloar said there are numerous festivities taking place during the event on Saturday, March 22.
"This is our 23rd annual Dog Jog, 5k and Block Party, and we have hundreds of dogs, runners, kids and families all coming out," Treloar said. "This event is a fundraiser to help us save the lives of thousands of not only homeless animals, but to provide support to pets and people within our community."
Treloar explained that the Richmond SPCA offers many services, including providing low-cost veterinary care, a pet pantry, children's programs and more, which this event will support.
Treloar also explained that this year's mascot, Myrtle, was selected during the yearly Fur Ball, which benefits the organization's Cinderella Fund for sick, injured and neonatal orphaned animals.
