Richmond Spiders men’s Lacrosse team clenches first ever NCAA tournament win

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The University of Richmond's men's Lacrosse team has secured their first ever NCAA tournament win after beating North Carolina at Chapel Hill 13 to 10.

On Saturday, May 10 the Spiders faced North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the first round of the tournament.

They defeated the Tar Heels in a close game with the Tar Heels controlling the first half, however the spiders answered back.

The University of Richmond's men's Lacrosse team broke onto the scene in 2014 making it one of the newest Lacrosse teams in the area. With the lacrosse team being one of the newer program, it makes today's win all the more monumental, making history with their first NCAA tournament win.

“It's really special, and hopefully it shows other programs out there to stay the course and anything can happen,” said Dan Chemotti, Richmond’s coach since the program was established.

The team will now advance on to the second round of the tournament where they will play the winner of tomorrow's Cornell versus University of Albany game.
