RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Rachel Ullstrom’s career-high 32 points led the University of Richmond to a 79-72 win over Temple, marking the Spiders' first victory over the Owls since 2006. The game started with two three-pointers from Katie Hill, giving Richmond a quick 6-0 lead. Temple soon took the lead, but a few key baskets and free throws by Richmond ended the first quarter with the Spiders ahead 22-17. In the second quarter, Richmond extended its lead with a series of baskets, going up by as many as 17 points. By halftime, the Spiders led 43-29. Temple closed the gap in the second half, bringing Richmond’s lead down to two points in the fourth quarter. Ullstrom hit several key shots and free throws in the final minutes to secure the win. Ullstrom finished with 32 points, shooting 9-11 from the field and 10-10 from the free-throw line. Newcomer Alicia Newell scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Hill added 11 points. The Spiders shot 57% from the field and forced 16 turnovers. The team also saw debut performances from Steph Ouderkirk, Alyssa Jimenez, Sam Dewey, and Anna Camden. Richmond starts the season 1-0.
