Richmond YMCA to unveil new community playground designed by kids

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The YMCA of Greater Richmond will unveil their new community-built playground at the Chester Family YMCA Thursday, Sept. 4.

According to the press release, the kid designed playground is in partnership with, "KABOOM!," an organization aimed at ending playspace inequity nationwide.

"The reality that far too many children do not get the chance to play on a playground, something that should be part of every child’s life," according to KABOOM! and The Greater Richmond YMCA.

Volunteers will begin construction on the playground located at 3011 W. Hundred Road in Chester at 8:30 a.m., followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from the YMCA of Greater Richmond and KABOOM!

In a statement KABOOM! said, "KABOOM! envisions a world where safe and amazing places to
play exist for every child in America so that kids can grow up happy and healthy."

The non-profit continued by stating, "This new playspace with YMCA of Greater Richmond is part of a nationwide effort led by KABOOM! to end playspace inequity – the reality that far too many children – especially children of color – do not get the chance to play on a playground, something that should be part of every child’s life."
