Richmond’s Department of Public Works launches annual clean-up initiative
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The city of Richmond will begin its annual neighborhood clean-up initiative on Saturday, offering residents two free bulk item disposal opportunities in 15 different neighborhoods.
On Saturday, March 14, the city's Department of Public Works (DPW) will kick off its annual Neighborhood Clean-Up Program, as part of the city's efforts to enhance community efforts to align with Mayor Danny Avula's vision for vibrant neighborhoods, per a March 11 press release.
On select Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon, March 14 to Nov. 5, DPW crews will visit each of the 15 neighborhood zones twice, offering residents a chance to "safely dispose [of] bulk items at no cost," a release states.
According to the city, each neighborhood will receive two Saturday curbside cleanups during the program period. Residents can also use the DPW Service Finder to verify clean-up dates for their neighborhood.
City officials also shared the following are examples of acceptable items for free bulk item disposal:
- Furniture
- Mattresses
- Tires (four per household)
- Appliances
- Lawn mowers (remove gasoline)
- Carpet
- Brush or bulk trash items
The city said it would not be collecting electronics, construction debris, hazardous waste items, glass or paint.
