Road closures, course bridges: Plan your travel around River City Half Marathon

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Credit Union River City Half Marathon & 5K races are this weekend! Here's what you need to know to plan your commute in and around the area.

Participants and supporters can catch 8News this Saturday, March 7, at the 8-mile mark near the intersection of Park Drive and Shirley Lane as the event's media sponsor this year. The half-marathon will start at 8 a.m. and the 5K race will begin at 8:20 a.m.

8News anchor Deanna Allbrittin will serve as the master of ceremonies at the start line on Keller Road within the University of Richmond.

Those who want to join in the fun at the 8News tent can park near Spottswood Road and walk to mile 8. The course will be easiest to access from Shirley Lane and Trafford Road.

From 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

From 6 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
- River Road between Panorama Drive and Huguenot Road
- Huguenot Road between River Road and Cherokee Road
- Riverside Drive between Southampton Road and Scottview Drive
- Bluff Drive between Scottview Drive and Warner Road
- Warner Road between Bluff Drive and Longview Drive
- Longview Drive between Warner Road and Wallowa Road
- Wallowa Road between Longview Drive and Windsorview Drive
- Windsorview Drive between Wallowa Road and Forest Hill Avenue
From 6 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
- Westbound Forest Hill Avenue between Windosrview Drive and Fairlee Road
- Fairlee Road between Forest Hill Avenue and Pineway Drive

Sports Backers also announced a list of course bridges along the race course where police officers will monitor and direct traffic safely between runners. There will be minor delays at these different course bridges.
