Run alongside 25,000 runners for Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Prepare to run alongside tens of thousands of runners for the 26th Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k on Saturday.
The run, which is presented by Kroger, will see 25,000 runners and walkers on Monument Avenue on Saturday, April 12. Race-day Packet Pick-Up will be available from 7 to 9:30 a.m. that day in the lobby of the Siegel Center near Broad Street and Harrison Street.
The Health and Fitness Expo is also set to take place in a two-day run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11.
According to a release on the morning of Wednesday, April 9, the 26th year of the 10k run will host the Collegiate Running Association 10k Road Race National Championship. A spokesperson for the event added that over 1,700 college athletes are competing for $3,500 in prize money awarded to the top collegiate finishers by the CRA.
Sports Backers said the expo is free and open to the general public, with over 30 vendors, live music, sponsor giveaways and food trucks. It also serves as the official packet pick-up location for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k and the Atlantic Union Bank 10k Mini, with registration open until 9 a.m. on race day.
Expo attendees should enter Richmond Raceway through Gate 4 on Laburnum Avenue or Gate 6 on Carolina Avenue. However, all participants will need to show photo identification or their registration QR code. Sports Backers recommends participants attend the expo on Thursday due to heavy rain in the forecast for Friday.
Last year, the run drew in 24,000 runners and walkers, with over 90% of participants coming from the Richmond region, and according to Sports Backers, it was one of the largest races in Virginia for that year.
