Second water sample taken after reservoir levels rise as many Richmond neighborhoods remain under boil water advisory

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A second round of water samples was taken on Wednesday afternoon after Richmond’s reservoir had risen overnight, as many Richmond neighborhoods remain under a boil water advisory.

Two negative results, spaced 16 hours apart, are required before the advisory can be lifted. One sample, according to a release from city officials, was taken at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

The city said it should receive news in the evening on Wednesday about the results of the first sample, which was taken at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27. In order to lift the boil water advisory, two clean tests are required.

This comes after the city's water treatment plant experienced issues early Tuesday morning, which reduced water production.

The city urges residents to continue to boil the water if they live, work, study or play in the impacted area.

Henrico County replenished the East End water reserves overnight, temporarily providing water to its residents as Richmond continues its efforts to fix the water treatment plant.

According to city officials, the earliest the advisory could be lifted is by midday Thursday.
