Section of High Bridge Trail in Prince Edward closed after two cyclists discovered human remains

**UPDATE**

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A section of High Bridge Trail in Prince Edward County closed on Saturday as police investigate what they are describing as a "suspicious death."

According to the sheriff's office, Virginia State Police (VSP), and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Law Enforcement Rangers are investigating what they are calling a "suspicious death" on High Bridge Trail in the Prospect area of Prince Edward County on Saturday, Aug. 23.

This comes after two bicyclists reported finding the remains of, "a deceased white female in the Prospect area of the State Park," at around 7:30 a.m. according to VSP.

Officials said they do not believe there is any threat to the public as of the time of reporting.

As a result, the county said the section of High Bridge Trail State Park between the east and west Prospect Road trail crossings will remain closed until further notice.
