Sentencing postponed for ex-student accused of killing 3 University of Virginia football players

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The sentencing for a former University of Virginia student who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing three football players and wounding two other students has been postponed. Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and five counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A sentencing hearing for Jones was scheduled to open on Feb. 4 in Albemarle County Circuit Court, but has now been postponed until 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 17. The shooting happened while Jones was on a bus with other teammates on Nov. 13, 2022. He killed D’Sean Perry, Devin Chandler and Lavel Davis, Jr. as the bus made its return to the university campus. I’m sorry," while riding on the bus hours before the shooting. Officials said Jones fired shots while aboard the charter bus after seeing a play and having dinner along with the other students in Washington D.C. The shooting prompted a 12-hour lockdown of the campus until Jones was captured.
