Several Richmond-area nurseries to offer deals for some native trees, shrubs in March
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Several nurseries in the Richmond area will offer a deal on eligible native trees and shrubs in March as part of a program by the Virginia Department of Forestry.
According to the department, plant lovers can visit several participating nurseries in the Richmond area from March 1 to May 1 to purchase eligible native tree or shrub species at a discounted price as part of the Throwing Shade VA Program.
The Throwing Shade VA Program helps to plant more native trees and expand biodiversity throughout Virginia by giving customers an incentive to purchase native plants with discounts of $25 on eligible trees valued at $50 or more at participating nurseries.
The department said participating nurseries will mark eligible plants with a Throwing Shade VA tag that customers can scan a QR Code and complete a short survey. Customers then show the completed survey when checking out to receive the discount.
Customers unable to access the QR code can reportedly ask for a paper version of the survey to complete and show at checkout.
According to the department, the following are the participating nurseries in the Richmond area:
- Cross Creek Nursery
- 501 Courthouse Rd. in North Chesterfield
- 15503 Ashland Rd. in the Rockville area of Hanover County
- Ed's Landscaping and Garden Center
- 4032 Mechanicsville Turnpike in the Mechanicsville area of Hanover County
