Several road closures planned for Ashland Train Day in Hanover
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- As Ashland Train Day approaches, authorities are warning drivers of several road closures that will be in place during Saturday's festivities.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, the annual Ashland Train Day will take over England Street (Route 54) and Railroad Avenue.
As pedestrian traffic in the area is expected to be heavy around the railroad tracks, the Ashland Police Department will have a variety of road closures -- as well as no-parking zones -- in place.
From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, the following roads will be closed:
- Route 54/England Street/Thompson Street, from Maple Street to Duncan Street
- The 100 block of North Railroad Avenue, both sides
- The 100 block of Hanover Avenue
- The 100 through 300 blocks of South Center Street/Railroad Avenue, from Route 54 to Myrtle Street, both sides
- Robinson Street, between South Railroad Avenue and Maple Street
- Lee Street, between South Railroad Avenue and the south side rear driveway of the library closest to Virginia Street
There will be detours in place for drivers who still need to navigate the area. Signs will be posted. Those are as follows:
- Eastbound traffic on Route 54: To be detoured north onto North James Street, then east onto Henry Clay Road to College Avenue, then south on Henry Street to Route 54.
- Westbound traffic on Route 54: To be detoured north onto Henry Street, then west onto College Avenue to Henry Clay Road, then south onto North James Street to Route 54.
Truck traffic will be prohibited on Route 54 from Medical Drive to Route 1. Truck drivers can look for detour signs in place that will direct them onto an alternate route.
