Three high school seniors killed in car crash in Spotsylvania

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three seniors at Spotsylvania High School were killed in a crash on Friday night.

On Friday, March 27 at around 11:46 p.m., Spotsylvania deputies and Spotsylvania fire crews responded to the 5300 block of Lewiston Road for reports of a vehicle crash.

Once on the scene, deputies found a single vehicle with three people who were pronounced dead on the scene.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) began an investigation into the crash.

The preliminary investigation has found that a 2002 Mercedes coup left the right side of the road and struck a tree. It is believed that speed was a factor in the crash.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office announced that the three victims, aged 18, 17 and 17, were all seniors at Spotsylvania High School and were set to graduate in the upcoming months.

The crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
