RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued across Central Virginia localities on Friday afternoon, with some areas under severe thunderstorm warnings.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6:15 p.m. on Friday, May 16, in the following localities:

  • Amelia County
  • Chesterfield County
  • Colonial Heights
  • Northhampton County
  • Nottoway County
  • Petersburg

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6:45 p.m. on Friday in the following localities:

  • Brunswick County
  • Dinwiddie County
  • Emporia
  • Greensville County
  • Mecklenburg County
  • Prince George County
  • Sussex County

A severe thunderstorm warning means one or more severe storms have been spotted in or near the areas under said warning.

A severe thunderstorm watch will be in effect until 11 p.m. on Friday in the following localities:
