Sola pays $2M settlement in suit alleging Medicaid fraud at Virginia residential group homes

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A company that formerly operated adult residential group homes in Gloucester County has paid $2 million to settle allegations of overbilling Virginia Medicaid by more than $600,000, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Sola, Inc. is accused of overbilling Medicaid $641,396.11 for "impossible" nursing services, the DOJ said.

The charges reportedly stem from the company billing the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) for hours that exceeded the hours worked by employed nurses at Sola. This was reported on the nurses' time sheets, the department said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert McIntosh and Virginia Senior Assistant Attorney General Megan A. Winfield investigated the case.
