Some Fluvanna residents may experience issues calling 911

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Fluvanna County residents using traditional landline phones may have issues calling 911 due to a service outage on Wednesday morning.

At around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Center was notified that a service outage was being experienced by Brightspeed, formerly CenturyLink, and affecting 911 and non-emergency phone lines.

According to the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office, residents may have limited or no ability to make outgoing calls using traditional landline phones, and 911 calls from landlines may not reach the communications center.

Officials said 911 calls, including texts to 911, made by residents using wireless devices appear to be functioning regularly.

However, any person who calls 911 and is not directly connected with a Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Officer is advised to call one of the non-emergency numbers 434-589-8211 or 434-589-8212 immediately for the Sheriff's Office.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the communications center has activated two additional phone numbers for Fluvanna County residents to use for direct contact: 434-962-1761 and 434-962-2894.

As of around 9:30 a.m., there is no projected restoration time for service, according to authorities.
