State police see over 200 crashes across Virginia amid winter storm
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- In just over half a day, there have been more than 200 crashes across the state of Virginia amid the first winter storm of the season.
Between midnight and 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, Virginia State Police has investigated 214 crashes throughout the Commonwealth. So far, none of these crashes have been deadly, but 29 have resulted in injuries.
This is a notable rise over the numbers Virginia State Police reported at noon. At that time, there had been 141 crashes -- meaning 73 had taken place in just four hours.
Per state police, 44 of these crashes took place in Central Virginia, with 12 of them resulting in injuries. State troopers have also responded to calls about 32 disabled vehicles.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) previously warned Virginians to stay off the roads, if at all possible, amid this winter storm. If you must go out, you are asked to exercise extreme caution.
