Statewide candidates cast their ballots as early voting begins in Virginia

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Early voting began today for Virginia's 2025 General Election, with nominees from both sides of the aisle casting their ballots and saying they're ready to serve all voters.

Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor John Reid embraced Democrat Gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger at a Henrico polling location Friday, moments after she spoke about cooling down the political temperature.

"There will be plenty of people who vote wholeheartedly for my opponent," Spanberger said just moments before, speaking about GOP nominee Winsome Earle-Sears. "I have an obligation to demonstrate respect for them and to focus on serving them."

"Well, let me do just that," Reid then said, stepping in to shake Spanberger's hand. "I'd like to demonstrate that we can still be friends."

Both nominees were in Henrico County this morning to cast their ballots and encourage Virginians to get out the vote. Each is hoping to capture voters from the opposite party.

"I'm going to get a lot of Democrats, too," Reid said. "Because I'm a new kind of Republican who's looking after the public and their jobs and their money and their families to keep them safe."

"I recognize that my charge is to serve everyone, whether they voted for me or did not," Spanberger said. "I have an obligation to hear all sides of an argument ... because there is nothing more important than ensuring that we are moving Virginia forward."
