StormTracker 8: Additional rounds of showers through Tuesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are remaining in the forecast through 8 p.m. tonight.

Any thunderstorms that develop this evening will bring the risk of heavy downpours, gusty winds, thunder, lightning and small hail.

A stronger storm or two can’t entirely be ruled out either through 8 p.m. tonight.

Sunday night into Monday morning, we are in for a mainly dry overnight period under mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures getting down to near 60 degrees.

Monday to kick off the new work and school week, will bring us mostly cloudy skies tomorrow, warmer temperatures compared to our Sunday, with highs around 80 degrees and additional scattered showers and storms on Monday afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorms that develop on Monday afternoon and evening could bring the risk of heavy downpours, gusty winds, thunder, lightning and small hail. A stronger storm or two can’t entirely be ruled out either during the PM hours of our Monday.

Tuesday brings us partly sunny skies, highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, and isolated showers in the PM hours, as we continue to deal with this stalled out frontal boundary and cut off low pressure system over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys through Tuesday night.

We could be looking at around another half inch of additional rainfall through Tuesday night, which is beneficial for our region.

Wednesday is our next completely dry day across all Central Virginia, from start to finish, under mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s.

Thursday, we will see our next storm system, our next cold front on the way and it will sweep through the region bringing another round of scattered showers to the region, under mostly cloudy skies and highs in the middle 70s.

I put watching for Friday, because there’s lots of uncertainty in our main computer weather models right now. One is suggesting additional showers on Friday, while the other is suggesting nothing happening at all. Friday will be our coolest day of this week, with highs only rising into the upper 60s to around 70 degrees, under partly sunny skies.

Next weekend, which is Mother’s Day weekend, right now looks completely dry both days under partly sunny skies and highs in the 70s.

Finally, the following Monday looks dry as well, under partly sunny skies and highs in the middle 70s.

Beyond this 8-day forecast period, I’m seeing another warming trend heading into the middle of the month of May next week!
