StormTracker 8: Another winter storm on the way this evening and overnight
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - All eyes on late Friday into early Saturday, for another winter storm set to impact Central Virginia with more wintry precipitation. More on that in a moment. We are starting off your Friday, clear and cold once again, so bundle up from head to toe before heading out the door this morning. This afternoon will bring increasing clouds across the region ahead and along our next winter storm which is set to bring impacts this evening and overnight tonight, with accumulating snowfall. Highs this afternoon will be chilly, rising into the middle 30s under mostly cloudy skies and less breezy conditions compared to recent days. Multiple winter weather alerts are in effect, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight for the wintry precipitation expected. Tonight, into our Saturday morning, we will be dealing with wintry weather, as light snow begins around 7 p.m. tonight and will continue overnight into the wee hours of our Saturday and end around 7 a.m. We will see moderate snowfall at times, especially overnight, while we are all sleeping. Expect difficult travel for Friday night into Saturday morning, due to the wintry precipitation in the forecast, so plan accordingly. I have updated the snowfall accumulations, to show that all of Metro Richmond will see 1 to 5 inches of snowfall from this event on the way. Southern Virginia will see some freezing rain and sleet happening overnight tonight from this event as well. After this winter storm exits during the daybreak hours of Saturday, we will then see lots of clearing skies and above freezing afternoon temperatures tomorrow which will allow for melting of that fresh snow to happen. Sunday and Monday feature lots of sunshine and warming temperatures, leading to more snowmelt. Chillier weather returns for next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. At the end of next week, we could see another warming trend.
