StormTracker 8: Snow & Ice on the way for Tuesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -Here we go into what is going to be one big mess weatherwise for the next 48 hours.‘

Location is going to be the key for you in the forecast as we are going to see a whole gamut of weather from this system, and the final results will depend upon how far North/South you live as to the amount of mixing that you get.

Ok, with that in mind, first up, we have a Winter Storm Warning for everyone in the Pink on the map you see below.  That is where there will the heavier combination of snow to sleet to freezing rain and then some rain down to the south.  

The Blue area is the Advisory, where the impacts will be less.

Not going to hide anything from you…here is how I think it plays out.

GREEN:  You’ll get some wintry stuff to start, but the rain will be enough to wash it away

DARK GRAY:  You will get snow but turn over fast enough to the sleet and the freezing rain (and then some rain) as limit you to 1”-3”.  Ice will be your main issue.

LIGHT GRAY:  More snow, then a change to the mixed stuff.  3”-6” of snow with ice on top

PURPLE:  You’re the big winner with 6”-10”

Tonight starts off with fair skies—then clouds late as we fall to the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Tomorrow, we will only make it into the lower to middle 30s over us.  That’s above freezing so it means the snow will be a heavy and wet snow.

The action will get going by late in the morning hours and continue through the afternoon with the changeover from south to north by the evening hours.

As we go though tomorrow night, we will see sleet, freezing rain and rain over the area.

Wednesday, we will have a light misty/wintry mix day with highs in the upper 30s.

The next weather system is on the way in for Thursday with a good rain and milder weather.  That could create some issues with snowmelt over us.

And there is another wet system on the way for the weekend and something looming for next week!!
