StormTracker 8: Snowstorm for Central Virginia Wednesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Today will stay quiet which will be great for last minute prep before the winter storm moves in tomorrow.

Snow will develop early Wednesday morning between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and pick up an intensity as we go into the afternoon and evening. The snow will come down moderate at times Wednesday evening but taper off Wednesday night and early Thursday morning to snow showers.

There has been a big change in the forecast with the latest weather models which increases snowfall accumulations across the area.

5” to 9” of snow will be possible from South Boston to Fredericksburg highlighted in white.

The city of Richmond, Chesterfield County, King William, King and Queen County, most of the Northern Neck, Amelia County, Nottaway, and Lunenburg Counties is now highlighted in pink and has the potential to see 9" to 12" of snow.

12"+ of snow is forecasted for Petersburg Colonial Heights, Hopewell Prince George, Charles City, Greensville County, and Northern Southampton Counties.

Any lingering snow showers are flurries early Thursday morning will give way to partly sunny skies and it will be a cold day with highs near 35.

Friday and Saturday will feature mostly sunny skies with highs around 40.


Sunday will also be mostly sunny, but a few clouds may increase later in the day making it partly sunny with highs near 45.
Looking ahead to next Monday we should see partly sunny skies with temperatures near 50 while Tuesday will give us a chance of showers with highs again around 50.
